24.07.2020

MITEF Greece Startup Competition took place successfully for the 6th consecutive year, thus proving that young Greek entrepreneurs can significantly contribute to Greece’s prosperity.

The award and closing ceremony for the 2020 Startup Competition took place at the Athens & Psychiko College Alumni Association, on Thursday, July 16th. HELPE Groups supported the innovation & start-up competition for the 2nd year in a row, being the exclusive sponsor of the “Energy” track, as part of the Group’s actions to reinforce innovation and the development of new technologies in the Energy sector.

Professor Vassilis Digalakis, Deputy Minister of Education honored the event with his presence, while Mr. George Alexopoulos, General Manager of Strategic Planning & Joint Ventures, and Executive Member of the Bod, represented Helpe Group. Mr. Alexopoulos underlined the success of this year's competition and stressed that the Helpe Group actively supports innovation and aims at developing new activities targeted at Energy Conversion and the reduction of the carbon footprint. In addition, he congratulated the winners on their success and all of the participants for their contribution to entrepreneurship and innovation, thus setting the example for potential new entrepreneurs.

An international panel of judges participated in the competition and studied the applications submitted from Greece and abroad. The evaluation criteria were the innovation of the proposed technology, its expansion capacity and the product’s impact in the international market. The following executives participated as mentors, on behalf of HELPE: Ms. Maria Moschopoulou, Manager of R&D and Transformation, EKO, Dr. Jenny Leivadarou, Innovation & New Technologies Engineer, and Dr. Ifigeneia Antoniadou, RES Engineer. Members of the judging panel were Dr. Spyros Kiartzis, Manager New Technologies & Alternative Energy Sources and Mr. Achilles Kyrtsis, Assistant Manager, Group Strategic Planning & Intelligence.

In the “Energy” track, 4 teams qualified to the final, and the winner was The SARM Project. The company has developed an innovative internal combustion engine, smaller in size, lighter and more energy-friendly, compatible with all types of fuel (hydrogen and fuels), which aims at optimal performance. The winners received a monetary award and a lot of “in kind” benefits from Mitef Greece’s partners, but the most important award is the opportunity for global networking, via MITEF’s well established international prestige.

Helpe Group assists the efforts of new businesses and scientists, encouraging competitions that foster innovation, aiming at understanding the current market trends and dealing with the complex challenges that arise with the development of new technologies.
